I adopted Jojo when he was 2yrs old. He was soooooo not housebroken. I don't have a special formula but I really think it was like Texas Aggie said...You have to be consistent. I just kept walking Jojo at the same time everyday. And I put the bell on the door. He resisted for a while. But (knock on wood) now I can safely say he is housebroken. He even rings the bell!! Sometimes he rings it with an attitude as if to say "take me out now"
So my suggestion is to be patient. There were some days that I just cried because I was so frustrated and tired of cleaning up after him. But it will get better. Hang in there!
