A Middle Village family returned home around midnight on Jan. 27 to find thieves had not only stolen jewelry, cash and electronics from their second-floor home, but had also snatched their 2-year-old Yorkshire terrier.
Diana and Steve Tarantola said the crooks had broken a back window of their home and opened the locked door. Diana Tarantola said her downstairs neighbor had also been robbed and that police told her that other local homes had reported break-ins that same evening.
Now, the couple said, they are wondering what to tell their daughter Deanna, 2, about the whereabouts of the family's beloved pet.
"They took our money and jewelry, but we didn't care about that stuff," she said. "Just give us back our dog."
