My husband is currently in medical school and I will be the first to tell you that it is EXTREMELY difficult. You have to really really LOVE medicine and science and learning to go to medical school. My husband works AT LEAST 80-90 hours a week and he is not getting paid. We will have in excess of $130,000 in debt when he gets out. And then he has to do his residency which will last AT LEAST 4 years and he won't be making hardly any money yet we'll have to start paying back those student loans. I don't want to discourage you from doing medicine, but it is just something that you really have to be IN LOVE with in order to do well and get through it because it is really really hard in all aspects: emotionally, financially, time, energy, etc. etc. etc. If you have any questions about pursuing a career in medicine, PM me.
Another thing to consider if you like the medical field is Nursing. My sister originally wanted to be a doctor but she wants to have a large family so she decided to do nursing because they have more flexible hours than a doctor.
I have a business degree and you can do a lot of stuff with a business degree. I am a paralegal at a law office and love it. With a business degree, you can also open a business, be an accountant, sell real estate, sell insurance, do pretty much anything. |
