I wrote to the company, and got this reply:
"
It will keep for 30 days if kept in it's own package and then set into a clean sealed canister and kept in a cool dry environment."
40 pounds is still probably too large a quantity unless you have a lot of Yorkies, but I guess 30 days is better then 14.
