Those little ones sure do creep into our hearts. Both of my kids had hamsters and they passed within days of one another. Their life expectancy is 24 months and they lived almost exactly 24 months. We sure did cry when we lost them.
I'm so sorry she's not well. Hopefully she'll pass soon and not suffer for long. She sure did enjoy a long life with you....three years is exceptional.
It helped our kids to have a little service for them. Everyone said a few words and the kids even wrote a little prayer...it was so sad. We buried them in the garden under a flower plant.
