I only have one male dog and he is fixed. I haven't fixed any of my females. My Germ. Shep. I breed her occais. but don't own the stud anymore. He is local though, so we go for a visit. Otherwise, all my females go into heat but no one to bother them. With my little Chin, he was in and out and by the next day doing great. I have never wanted to risk surgery for the females when I considered it unneccessary. If you male is fixed I wouldn't worry about it. Going into heat doesn't hurt animals like so many claim.
