The reason they prefer to spay a female before they have their first heat is that their reproductive organs remain puppy size until that time. The surgery is a lot less invasive when the organs are very tiny. Cricket was 3 lbs. 4 oz. at 20 weeks old and at 7 monthes is still only 3 lbs. 10 oz. We're praying she gets large enough to breed but it's not looking too good. I could almost guarantee your baby won't reach 5 lbs. Talk to your vet about the safest way to get her spayed. Ask him about the increased risk of reproductive cancers and weigh the issues before making your decision. Good luck with your little one.
