ive had yorkies for over 20 years and they have all slept under the covers and ive had no problems but i would say if they are very tiny and very young not to do it just incase you roll on them and they are not big enough to move you or wake you up, i would guess that is what happened to the poor little one that died.
its kind of the same with sleeping with babies and toddlers , a baby might not wake you if it was in trouble but a toddler probley would, im use to sleeping with my yorkies so wake as soon as i feel movement and im a light sleeper and not very heavy and dont move much in bed.
