I think its fine. Izzy sleeps under the covers all the time. When I brought him home the first time, he would bury his face in the pillows on the couch and fall asleep. (see pic) I wondered about it myself but he seems to come up from under them during the night and he is fine. He will snuggle up right next to me under the covers...its so cute!
