I have a 1 year old male and just recently got a female companion for him. Tino was neutered 6 months ago... he never lifted this leg before he was neutered and still doesn't. (As far as I know he has never officially "marked".) Bunny is almost 5 mos and she will be spayed when she is big enough. From my experience.. I LOVE having one of each! The male peronality is so sweet and loving and then my female is just the fiesty-est and bossiest thing I have ever seen. She's been here two months and she runs the place! Its soooo funny to watch this thing that weighs 2lbs strut around here giving marching orders to everyone, including ME! Anyway... I was unsure abt whether to get a male or female when I was adopting my second and for the most part everyone rec'd male/female combo. I have heard that with two males you run the risk of marking issues even if you never had them before. And with two females you have to worry about both of them trying to be the Alpha. So in a nutshell the way someone explained it to me was male+male=marking; female+female=migraines!!!
These are, of course, not absolutes bc there are many people with two of the same sex and they get along great! |
