 Sam-e or Milk Thistle for liver
Is anyone giving their Yorkie Sam-e or MilkThistle for there liver problems. Elmo has a probable liver shunt and one "vet" recommended milk thistle and said to buy it at the health food store. I bought it in liquid form and of course it only has dosing instructions for people. The vet "guessed" I should give Elmo 10 drops 2X a day. "guessed!" do we really pay for them to guess?" Also his recent blood work showed low platelet and phosphorus levels, we will retest again in 10 days. The vet didn't seem sure what could be causing this but I thought I read this can "go along with advancing liver disease. Any thoughts or suggestions. He now has Elmo on Hill's l/d, Baytril and milk thistle if I can get good dosage information. Any thoughts on Sam-e and dosage would be appreciated also. Do any of you give your babies popcorn "unsalted" of course as a treat? Elmo loves it but I'm always afraid to give him something in case it's not good for him.
