I took my boys on an overnight kayak trip last summer. I bought them life jackets! They looked sooo cute in them, everyone on the river was just laughing hysterically when we went by! 2 tiny boys in bright orange life jackets. They DO NOT like to swim at all... but a couple times they did jump out of the kayak into the water on their own. Mostly I think it was bc they forgot that it was water when they jumped, then panicked when they hit the water!
I'll take them again this year and see if they will enjoy swimming a bit more now that they have done it before and they are a year older now!
