I brought Pixie home Saturday night and she is 13 months old. The Breeder had her in her basement in a 18 x 2 foot pens with 2 other dogs and more pens with her other dogs. So my problems are 1) When I put her in her playpen at night or when I have to go out, which isn't often, she literally SCREAMS the whole time she is in there. My husband goes to sleep at 7:30- 8:00 pm as he gets up at 3:30am so I let her scream for 15 minutes last night before I had to let her out or my husband would have a fit. So she slept with me, which is OK she just laid next to me all night on her blanket. But how do I get her use to being in her pen when she needs to be. Do you think she will eventually stop screaming if I leave frequently for short periods of time? I have never had a dog that screamed and didn't stop. Do you think she will settle down, I know I am not giving her enough time to settle in but I have never brought an older dog home.
The other problem she was on paper at the breeders so really isn't housebroken. I have paper and pads down everywhere in the bedroom but I have never been able to catch her except this morning going on the carpet.Also she doesn't seem to go very often, that I know of. I have been pretty watchful but as far as I can tell she went from 9:00 last night to 7:30this morning without going. Hey she just pooped on the newspaper close to where she peed on the carpet this morning. Since then i put the paper where she peed thinking maybe she would go to the same spot. I am a little more hopeful that she will get trained eventually. I guess one question I have now is since she has peed and pooped in the same area should I take up the paper I have all over and leave it down where she went? Sorry this is so long but any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks
