My brother's yorkie gets his ear hair plucked out to avoid infection, but he has never had an ear infection (he's 4 months) so I don't know if it's necessary or not.
The hair is there for protection. My American Hairless Terrier has no body hair at all, and they develop more earwax as a protective measure to protect the ears since they don't have the hair to protect their ears.
My yorkie has never had a problem.
If the ears aren't erect, the ear canal can get very moist and warm so infections can happen, but you can also just keep them clean, and trim the ear hair around them. I don't see any reason to pull the hair out. It seems cruel and unnecessary. |
