You're exactly right. Dolly doesn't howl or anything after I leave in the morning for work but she and Spunky know when I'm getting ready to leave. Every morning I sit on my hassock to put my shoes on. Dolly will come and sit as close to my feet as she can get while I'm putting my shoes and socks on. Spunk will get his squeaky toy and start it squeaking and bring it over to me to play. This is the routine every work morning.
Then when my wife comes out of the bathroom after doing her makeup , Dolly knows she's about ready to leave and will follow her every step. We both leave together in the morning and just before we are to walk out the door she'll go to the food bowl and just chow down. She'll look up at us and start chowing down some more. It's so funny. I tell my wife to hurry up or I'll have to fill the bowl with food again.

So it's a form of separation anxiety I guess but she stuffs her face instead of howling or barking.
I hope Chachi will do better. I think everyone had some good suggestions.
