We've had Baloo since September, Belle since November, and they are both almost 7 months old. Baloo was reliably pad trained since October, but his neutering in Jan. has him regressing pretty badly, and Belle is at the point where she will go on the pad if she's in the xpen or small kitchen we have, but won't make the journey over there from anywhere else.

My wife and I both work all day, so they get to pee where they like within their confined area (kitchen), most of the time on the pad, but they receive no discipline or reward since we are gone. Also, when we get home at night, they are old enough they might only go 2-3 times, so the opportunities aren't as numerous for praise as it was when they were 11 weeks old and peeing every 15 minutes.

My personal opinion is this is making their training go oh so slowly, but they will get there someday. My wife and I are wondering if there are any better options. Here's what we have so far for options:

1. Crating them during the day - this would probably be best, but one of us would need to come home during lunch to let them out, impossible for my wife. I can most of the time, but the nature of my work (department of defense), means that I won't be able to sometimes, and they just won't make it 8 hours, ever. This option would mean we could switch to outdoor training, and get rid of pee pads! Although I'm sure it will take a LONG time to get them used to the idea of not going in the house, they have no problems with not wanting to go outside.

2. Dog sitter/neighbor letting them out of the crate during lunch or a couple times a day. This idea we are still researching (prices and such), but we're not sure we're comfortable with someone else being in our apt, we have many valuable things and we couldn't take it if one of the dogs got away from them.

3. Someone (from YT or otherwise) who would be willing to watch and help train our dogs during the day, kind of like a doggie day care but with a training aspect. They go to day care occasionally, but they don't help train.

So that's it, your opinions would be appreciated, this potty training thing is tough!
