. Bernie was hit by a car and left for dead. That's (more or less) how he ended up in rescue. The rescue paid for surgery (his pelvis was broken) and he now has a plate and pins. They had to open him up several inches on both sides. Even knowing this, it took us a few days to figure out why he liked that area rubbed so much, lol.
