When I first started breeding I was dead set on the only dogs I would buy are blue and tan/gold because that was the color for show dogs. When I went to buy my second yorkie, the breeder had a litter of black and gold yorkies there and I couldnt take my eyes off of them. The stood out and were so much prettier than the blue ones with those dark rich colors. I came home with 3 blue and golds but couldnt stop thinking about how much prettier those black and gold puppies were. I agree with Mardelin, the black ones seem to have a soft coat. My Louie is more black and has a soft coat and it is nice and thick and is very easy to take care of. It doesnt mat hardly at all and it is so soft and pretty. I guess it all depends on which ones you like the look of the best. A nice dark steel blue coat is the best but the black ones are beautiful too.
