My vet recommended giving Tylenol to my dog. In fact, I had been giving children's Motrin and he said to give the Tylenol instead. I know too much can cause liver problems and even red blood cell problems (for humans too, if overused), but have seen no actual medical info that occasional doses will hurt dogs. I know you should NEVER give Tylenol to cats -- it can be lethal to them. But dogs? I have only used the Tylenol once but after some internet sleuthing, I feel like it is probably safe to use as directed by the vet. They even make specific Tylenol+Codeine for canine use when they need pain meds after surgery as such. If anyone has a medical reference please post!

I find one place that says Tylenol is the safest, then aspirin, then ibuprofen. Then I find another that says aspirin is safest. Hard to know what they can have for pain or fever.
