There is mesh on each side, but it doesn't open up to allow the head to peak out. She's only 7.5 lbs and short and stumpy so she's pretty small!! The bag itself is pretty large too, so i can't imagine wanting to go any bigger.

It sounds OK. My 9-pounder can't stretch out in our carrier, and he's stayed in it for a 6-hour flight. They just curl up anyway. You might measure the dimensions (length, height, width) and post them here to see if anyone else has advice.
