Yorkie don't shed. They have hair. So the baby hair grows out and adult hair comes in. As a puppy matures, the color and the texture of their coat changes. It's cute when the adult hair starts to come in, it looks like when a person who dyes their hair needs a good touch up!
Since your baby sounds like he is loosing a lot of her coat you may want to have him checked with the vet. There may be an underlining cause that need medical intervention. And get a second opinion from a different doctor.
