Lactating females and weaning I'm not sure this is in the right place but..........
Ok, Lady had her puppies a week before Amber had hers. Because of how sick Lady was, I put her babies in with Amber. Now, Amber's babies are 4 weeks old today. They act younger. They still want to sleep all the time. Lady's boys are climbing out of the bed and playing. They are chewing(toothless) the other babies. Amber is not wanting to feed the babies. Lady's babies don't want formula, they went right to canned dog food. They still want to nurse but Amber's babies still want to nurse only, they won't lap the milk yet.
Is it ok at their ages for them to go straight to canned food and should I continue to force Amber to stay in the pen with them? She will feed them but she will also go across the pen from them and hide around the bed where they can't see her. I think she is reacting to the older behaviour of Lady's babies and her babies are paying for it. What do you suggest? Sylvia |
