So sorry! I had a teddy bear hamster when I was in high school and he was just THE sweetest thing! I carried him all around the house and he never bit me either. He lived about 3 years which if I remember right, is pretty typical for their age span. Anyone... correct me if I'm wrong on that one.
I do wonder why he died so soon. You never know what's going on with these little critters though.
