I have 4 dogs. My dachshund barks the most and she is the oldest. I think she does not see and hear as well as she used to and is more easily worried over what she does hear. My Jack Russell almost never barks or yaps. Of the two Yorkies, one will yap when playing/chasing the other dogs or when the dachshund starts and the other little Yorkie has never barked or yapped yet. So, maybe it is something in the dog's personality and not just the breed???
