Make him tired before he goes to bed, play and take him for a walk in the evenings, even just a few rounds in the yard.
My Chanel used to be like that when she was little, i had her in a baby playpen during the night, she used to wake up, and start bouncing from one end to the other, she used to wake us up between 2 and 3 ... it was "party time for her" so i kept her awake in the evenings, no more napping after dinner, it worked for us.
Now they both sleep in the bed with us, before she goes to sleep, we play for a while.
