Is it necessary to keep them caged for 6 weeks. Was she spayed or did she have other surgery. I have never caged a dog after spaying.
No . . . she broke two bones in her leg after being dropped by a little boy that picked her up after he was told not to and surgery to place a plate and pins in it. The ortopedic surgeon at the University of Minnesota was adamant about her being in a crate for 6 weeks to allow the bones to heal. She has no cast or bandages on it . . . just an open incision with stitches . . . which were removed two weeks ago. We will be at four weeks on Thursday and another two to go before she has to go into a playpen for another two weeks.
