He will have one down between his legs where his boys are supposed to be, and another one on his abdomen along the side of his penis - both very small incisions.

Oscar also had 14 teeth pulled - for him, that was the source of his pain. My vet prescribed pain killers for him and for the first night he definitely needed them. I'm not sure if your vet will prescribe them for your guy for two teeth though and it's not standard (as far as I know) to prescribe them for the neuter. Depends on your vet - either way, they will go over when and how to administer any medication.

When you pick him up that night, just be prepared for him to be REALLY tired. Some vets don't allow you to take the dog home the same day as the surgery because they are so lethargic - people think that something is wrong. Let him sleep as much as he wants. He may be drowsy for up to a few days later. Don't let him gorge himself on food or water - but I would recommend he does eat a little something when he gets home that evening. Some vets say no food til the next day - I say give me a break! Oscar and Ruthie were STARVING after their surgeries. Maybe have some soft food on hand - his mouth may be a little tender from the tooth extractions.

Definitely restrict his movement as much as you possibly can. No running, no jumping, etc. That includes going up/down stairs. Sometimes it's impossible to keep these guys still, but do the best you can. Definitely watch that he isn't licking at his stitches - licking leads to infection and can quickly lead to pulling stitches out. As far as the cone.. I didn't use the cone on Ruthie or Oscar - my personal preference though. I don't put anything around their little necks. Instead, I made a little diaper by cutting up an old cotton tee and tying it - it worked really well. They didn't bother with it, and I knew they couldn't get at their incision. Some people use a baby onesie too. But, if you're going to cover it, just make sure that there are periods where the incision is not covered and your letting air get to it. I was able to watch my two a lot of the time so I only used the diaper for sleeping at night. If you do decide to use the cone, simply remove it for eating - it shouldn't bother them while sleeping.

I think you'll be surprised at how quickly he'll bounce back after the surgery. All dogs are different - Oscar took a few days to get back to himself, Ruthie was up and running like nothing had happened the next morning. If you have concerns following the surgery, call your vet - that's what they're there for.

Good luck to your baby! I'm sure he'll be fine!
Wow this is very helpful. Yes, Sparky is going to do a cryptorchid neuter. They will prescribe pain medication. Sparky started sleeping on my bed last week. After the surgery should i be afraid of him not being able to go to his potty are? Should i cage him while i sleep or still allow him to be in bed with me. Problem is will he pee on my bed. The past night he is good in holding his pee in till the next morning. Will doing this procedure not allow him to hold his urine till the next morning?

My vet said that i can take him home the same day. But i work during the day and block off the area so that he is in the kitchen area. Should i let him continue his daily routine when i go to work the next day after his surgery. For example. leave him in the confined kitchen are? Will he bark and bark like he does now after the surgery?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm concern parent.
