I think they look great. Does your machine have an option where you can move the needle all the way to the right or left? If so, this will help you get closer to the D ring. Just make sure your webbing material is wide enough so in case your D ring has a split in it that it won't turn. I prefer the straight stich look, but make sure you sew all the way across the webbing.
