First of all, how did you hear about the puppy? It seems like to me, at least in our area, the best breeders do not have to advertise in the paper. You have to seek them out (in my case, I talked with the best grooming shop in town). Then you get on their waiting list. Before they allow you to do that, they want to meet you, and ask a lot of questions about how you will care for the puppy. They ask about children and other pets, experience with small dogs, where I live, and I can tell they are sizing me up.

This is something else I forgot to mention. I did find mine in the paper but she said she was only advertising because she was leaving out of town for christmas for 2 weeks and had to try to get the word out. If I get another yorkie...not that I have any issues with the breeder I chose, but I would definitely talk to my vet and get names of people who breed. I agree that the best way to find a good breeder is going to be word of mouth...wether it be a friend, a vet, a groomer...word of mouth is the best way to find almost anything.
