id go with kittens, theyre easier to teach not to bother the birds. i have a teil, and when i first got my kitten, i was scared that shed hurt her. all you have to do is if the kitten starts showing interest in the bird, poor some water on the kitten, or make a loud noise(something to discourage her). i did this with my cat, and now, she hasnt looked at the bird since we got her two years ago
