Jackson was about 5 months old before he would attempt any stairs. Even then, he'd only go up the stairs. I had to actually train him to come down the stairs. He was about 6 months old before he'd go in that direction. I started by putting him one or two steps from the bottom and encouraging him to come down to me. Once he did that, I increased it by a step or two. Once he mastered about 4 steps, he was willing to try the whole staircase. He still goes slowly...he is small enough that I think if he tried to go quickly, he'd topple head over heels. But at least now he's not afraid of the stairs.
