Good luck with the neutering. It's scary for us moms, but Max was just fine. He slept all of the next day, was tired and had a little less energy for the next couple of days (not that he didn't run around), and then he was fine.

Max only barks when he hears things - I can't always hear them, but maybe your house is haunted? Seriously, he may be just hearing a mouse in the walls.
Ask the vet what to do. You don't want to leave poison for the mouse, if that's what it is, because if he catches it, he'll ingest the poison. I would let it go for a while and it will stop.
