I have had this problem, but have corrected it. I have a puppy 6 months old who I do not completly trust. I was using a completely gate and that little stinker figured out how to climb up the gate and over, he also would jump over it and if I raised it he would go under. He is completely fearless just like my 5 year old son maybe thats why they are such pals. I bought a taller child's gate and put plexi glass on the inside so he could not climb that worked for a while but he figured that he could jump over if he jumped high enough. I now use the gate with the plexi on the bottom and have the other gate on top of that one so that it is tall enough and that he can not get out while I am running errands etc.
