For flat irons - make sure you are getting one with ceramic plates NOT metal plates! Cheaper irons WILL catch your hair and cause breakage - investing a little more $ in a good iron will save your hair! I recommend a spray to use on your hair to protect it from the heat of the flat iron - it also helps to KEEP the hair straight - if you're like me and have curly/wavy hair, humidity is NOT your friend and these sprays can help keep your hair smooth and sleek.

I've been straightening my poor hair for YEARS, but my hairstylist is always amazed at how healthy it looks, so I must be doing something right!

Anyways, just wanted to add my 2 cents on flat irons - they're great when you can find a good one!
I do agree with you about the spray, and I'm certain if I did splurge and get a Babyliss or something like that my hair would be more healthy.
