I recently had my carpets cleaned and the guy said to use white vinegar. Poor it on, let it set, and then get it up with a dry washcloth. Once youve done that, if the smell bothers you, you can rinse with water. Either way, once completely dry, the smell will go away.
I have beige/white carpet too, works pretty good and a cheap solution.
