Frontline works in a slightly different way to most other flea treatments in that it doesn't actually kill the adult fleas.
What it does is work as a contraceptive to prevent the adults from breeding.
So the odd live adult your dog picks up will still live out it's short life but will not breed so you won't get the usual infestation. Once those adults have died you will be flea free. they have to bite of course, to injest the contraceptive effect, so could still cause itching.

That's why it's a good idea to give the house a good hoovering, wash all bedding & perhaps use a household insecticide (if you don't mind chemicals) when you spot the first flea. Just incase there are any others lurking.
