1. Will neutering calm him down? It may calm him some, but yorkies are hyper dogs anyhow. Don't expect to have a sedate little dog, that will not happen. Yorkies are terriers and terriers are also know as terrors.
2. He is about 4.5 lbs., is he too small too walk on a leash in town? They are never too small to walk on a leash, you just have to make sure to keep an eye on him and watch for other larger dogs that may be running loose. The yorkies will not back down, and a larger dog can do real harm in no time at all.
3. He gets very hyper and when I put him on my bed he sometimes almost falls off, i watch him like a hawk, but how come eveyone else can safely put their yorkie on the bed? They have to learn about falling off things. There have been many that have been hurt badly by falling off someone's bed onto a hard floor. You do need to watch him closely, and have some way for him to get up and down off the bed. I have a crate at the bottom of my bed that I teach my dogs to use to jump up on then up onto the bed, and they same procedure for getting off the bed.
4. When is it too cold to go outside (he has a shearling jacket)? Mine go out in weather as cold as 20 below as long as they have their jackets on, and I don't let them stay out too long. Yorkies have hair, not fur, so they have to have something to keep them warm, and you have to be careful of their paws too. Both from the cold, and from salt that is on the walks or streets. If you walk him in areas that have been salted, then rinse off their paws when you bring them inside.
5. He seems smaller than other yorkies at 4.5 lbs and 7 inches at the shoulder, is he?
some yorkies have short legs, and some have long legs, so it just depends on your yorkies body style. I have a couple of very short ones, and a couple of tall ones.
6.How do i get him to stop nipping? | You have to be persistant in your correcting this habit, and as mentioned before, replace your fingers with some sort of toy or other chew item. A strong NO BITE when he does it and replace with the other item. |
