Suggestions:
1) Save file as 72 pixels per inch - any larger just takes up space
2) Save file as a .jpg or .gif image
3) Usually you'll have to resize the picture to 5.5 inches x 5.0 inches or so in order for it to fit within the guidelines that are set for the forum with the above things I mentioned in place already.
