Wow, that seems like way too long to be in a cage. Can't you put him with an open cage inside an x-pen or bathroom with food, water, and pee pad. Dogs will often hold it for extremely long periods because the instinct to not litter their bed is so strong, but they are suffering. Think of how you feel when you have to hold it.
