I would bet the city of NY has an awesome treatment and filtration plant.
In my area of Western Canada, it must be pretty archaic. Our water looks and smells okay but i had some problems with my dogs getting diahrrea, giardia and other water borne stuff. It took a while for me to wonder about the water. I switched to buying water about 5 months ago and haven't looked back since. Dogs are all fine now.
