I agree with the empty stomach theory - Ruthie and Oscar have done this a couple times too and having treats before bed (or access to food at night if they get hungry) has eliminated the problem. Before rushing off to the vet, I would try feeding him tonight closer to bedtime, or giving him a few treats so that he has something in his tummy. If he still throws up the next morning, then maybe call the vet and see what they suggest.
