After birth fluids will be greenish-black going to straw colored. As long as she's not hemorhaging, she's okay. As far as the pup goes, please don't blame yourself. So many things can go wrong. Maybe the lungs had not developed properly and could not function. As far as removing the sack before the pup is fully born, it's best to keep it in tack until the placenta is delivered as well unless there is trouble with the placenta. Removing the sack early would not have helped a pup that was unable to have normal breath functions. Did you "sling" the pup? That's the only other thing that I can think of that you might have done, CPR will help if the pup stayed in the birth canal too long and it aspirated placental fluid. Enjoy your pup. It's so fun to watch them grow!
