I am always alarmed about these things-initially. Then, I think like the old nurse tha I am. As nurse-mom I would put warm compresses on the bump for 20 mins every 2-4 hours and make sure the drainage-bleeding is not pus. The better idea might be to use dry clean white cloths to dab the drainage and keep it dry. I would keep him quiet (yeah, right!) and monitor him for food and water and call the vet ASAP if any changes at all!! Have you checked his temp? Should be no more than 102 degrees unless you already have a base-line temp on him that is much different than that.
If he has any changes at all take him to the ER and try to arrange payment. Our er vet charges so much up front-I have it put on my credit card. Let us know how he is doing, okay?
