Default Mari needs surgery! Questions

Hi everyone, My little Mariposa started dropping her right hip when she was walking!! I was scared to death thinking hip dysplacia but it did turn out to be 'Medially Laxating Patella'.

After hearing this and talking to some friends two people I know have had this one with a Pom and another with a Maltese. They both did well after the surgery.

As it turns out, which I heard is common, both knees are bad. The vet said it will be $1,000 per knee!!!!! ouch!

Have any of you eperienced this? Is there something we can do to prevent surgery?

Also, he says that the way she steps, not flat on her foot, but curved that she must have fallen and has a disc problem.

She hasn't had surgery because when he took an xray at pre-op he found that she had conjested lungs. She had been caughing as of late, but I thought it was because of barking. He said her heart sounds fine but put her on antibiotic to heal that before surgery, plus giving her back time to heal....?

Does anyone have suggestions? Thank you....Cathe
