I can never get it right either. Gracie has a naturally long quick in one nail, even the vet makes it bleed when she cuts it. I have given up. From now on, the groomer does it. She had no difficulty. It's only $5 for a nail trim! In the interim, I would suggest taking off just barely the tip.
