I'm mistaken on California Natural and Solid Gold. Evidently they have puppy formulas now. It's been a while since i've looked at puppy kibbles. But basically, protein content will differ depending on the formula of the dog food. Puppy formula tend to be higher in protein (high 20%'s). Working/High Activity dog formula tend to be high in protein (low 40%'s). Adult/All Life Stages dog formula tend to be high 10's to low 20's in protein. Diet/Senior formula tend to be lower in protein like mid to high 10's. But it really depends on the formulas.

- Natural Balance 18-24% All Life Stage
- Flint River Ranch 21-23.5% All Life Stages
- Canidae Pet Foods 18.5-26% All Life Stage
- California Natural 18-21% (Adult) 26% (Puppy)
- Karma Organic 20%
- Solid Gold 18-42% (Adult) 26-28% (Puppy)
- Newman's Own Organic 21% (Adult)

All of the above have formulas that has 21% protein (except karma organic) if you want to be exactly at 21%. All of the above have options that contain no soy and no corn. All of them do not have by products and bad preservatives. Even Science Diet's adult formulas have approx 21-21.5% protein. But I've never fed my boys Science Diet because it has corn and by products in the top 5 ingredients.
