Default Question from a new potential yorkie owner

Hi everyone. I wanted to get your opinions. I have a friend who is considering buying a yorkie. The one she is looking at will be around 7 lbs fully grown. We live in WA state. Right now we are in a cold snap, but normally, I would say our winter temp is around 40 degrees.

One of her hesitations is that she is not a "dress up her dog" kind of person. She's wondering if you HAVE to put sweaters and such on them in the winter? She plans on keeping the dog indoors, etc. My opinion is that it's not REQUIRED to put them in clothes. Most of us just like to. I could see if you were going to go on an hour long hike, or you lived in Alaska or something. But I want to make sure I'm giving accurate info.

Phoebe has done just fine going out potty without her sweater this winter and she's 4.4 lbs.

What do you think? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
