They are so fickle sometimes, aren't they?

In the first case, I wouldn't worry about it but I would reward brave behavior on his part. If, for instance, he's been hiding in your room and then ventures out while the dreaded stranger is still there, I'd give him treats.

You might also automatically hand dog treats to visitors so they can give them to him. If he learns that good things come from strangers, perhaps he'll get braver.

In the second case, all you can do is laugh (and try not to be jealous!).
