Good thread!
It took some time for both of them. My wife brought Eddie home, and while I thought he was cute I never thought he'd become my dog, not in a million years. His feistiness grew on me. Then his smarts grew on me. Finally, his delicateness grew on me. I realized he needed special attention because of his size, and if I didn't do it no one would.
By the time we got Jack, I was gaga over Eddie and got Jack as companion for him. He was cute but tiny and no athlete like Eddie. I never thought I'd fall in love with him the way I fell in love with Eddie. But I'll be darned if Jack didn't prove his feistiness too. Not only did he recover from leg surgery in record time, he wouldn't back down to Eddie when Eddie was being a bully.
This winter, Jack totally won me over. While Eddie still runs when I try to put on his coat to go out in the cold, Jack is game. He shivers faster than Eddie, but he doesn't want to miss the walk. He's all canine, too.
I love them both equally.
