My sister had a miniture dachshund who had a severe liver shunt. She took him to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he went through surgery (or surgeries - I think he had 3 separate procedures). It was a long process and recovery and he was on a special diet for the rest of his life.
But, after all that he lived a long, happy life -- he was almost 15 when he died.
So dogs with the problem can live and thrive. |
